Co-ordinate the right way Pt2

Colour co-ordination doesn’t mean uniform. Too many people view co-ordination in the style of a sports strip, ie. Everything matching.

Co-ordination is described as "the organisation of different elements of a complex body so as to enable them to work together effectively."

The definition of uniform is "to remain the same in all cases and at all times, unchanging in form or character."

Food for thought.

Which description best fits your style?

Sun, sea, sneakers and style

Leading contender for the shoes of the summer is the Nike Max 90 EM 'Beaches of Rio. A real summer splash of exotic flavours to make an eye-catching masterpiece. I have been quite scathing of Air Max 90’s on here, but these are undeniably gorgeous. Not for the faint hearted or those who don’t know how to deal with colours. If you can handle your colours, these are a must have this summer.

Co-ordinate the right way Pt1

The best is never the most obvious. Very rarely should it be blatant.

Don't be like those rappers who wear a red hat, red t-shirt, blue jeans and a red pair of trainers. As an adult, your colour co-ordination should be more sophisticated than that. Be more astute. Be cute in your approach. Think out of the box. Note, that doesn't mean think outlandishly. There is no need to break the rules per say, but bend and twist them. Re-shape them.

The best co-ordination is sometimes not even in the colour, but in the whole picture. Think differently. Think holistically.

Autumn rustic colours are some of the best for co-ordination. They are often more than a block colour. They have a feel and character. In fact you could say that autumn colours have the most character. It's a transitional season and the colours reflect that as well. In autumn you’ll see various rich colours amalgamating together.

Just as the mouth can taste if something is off, so can the eyes in terms of colour co-ordination. Similarly the eyes can 'taste' if something is right. There are no black and white [pardon the pun] rules to co-ordination.

ps. All colours are equal, but black is always an easy option. The truest fashionistas and fantasistas never take the easiest option.

My trip to Copenhagen

On a recent trip to Copenhagen, I stumbled across a generous handful of outlets selling top of the range street clothing/casual wear. I’m talking about brands such as Norse Projects, Suit, Henrik Vibskov and Penfield to name but a few. I visited the actual Norse Projects store as well as Illum, Wood Wood, Naked [a specialist in women’s street clothing] and a few other smaller boutiques.

From the fancy bakeries, specialist tea shops [in which I bought a bag of Mojito herbal tea] to the upper echelons of menswear outlets - Copenhagen is definitely a city for style.

Copenhagen is the first city I have been to that puts men’s fashion on a par with women’s. For example, department store Illum had two floors dedicated to men’s fashion and only one for women. I can’t think of any department store in England that would give men so much floor space – acres of it. The town centre and the backstreets are full of shops which specialise in stylish menswear. Despite men’s clothing having prominent shelf space, most street clothing stores also had a female section which is also nice to see. This dispels the myth that brands such as Penfield and the like are only suitable for men.

Copenhagen is definitely a city I would recommend for fashionistas and fantasistas. London can learn from Copenhagen in terms of its appreciation that men also have an interest in style.

Next stop New York?

A moving picture says a thousand [and one] words

Lookbooks are generally that - a compilation of images in the form of a book, showing off the latest season’s collections. I have always been a fan of lookbooks, but I must confess, they haven’t always made sense to me. Some are more ambiguous or dare I say, enigmatic than others. Obscure shots of the clothes, more shots of nudity, no prices, no names, extreme locations…some are just eye-candy. And maybe that is the aim, hence some brands increasingly opting for moving lookbooks. Some moving lookbooks are like movie trailers and some are more advanced and appear like artistic mini movies. Take a look at a couple that have caught my eye recently.
